How We Work

Counsel/Advice/Direct Service

Due to size and scope, IJP provides counsel, advice, and direct service in a limited number of cases based on specific funding. We do not have a general intake line. If you are in need of free legal help, please visit Indiana Legal Help.

Broad Advocacy

IJP seeks to address the root causes and effects of injustice in Indiana. This means understanding how our laws, and changes in our laws, will affect the most vulnerable Hoosiers. We do this by engaging with affected individuals and communities, partners, and stakeholders.

We do this work by engaging in public education, administrative and regulatory advocacy, improvements to our judicial system, and litigation.

Race Equity Lens

IJP seeks to use a racial justice lens in determining advocacy priorities. Although poverty and race are not identical, historic evidence demonstrates that they are inextricably linked. The current public health crisis has disproportionately harmed communities of color—in areas related to health, housing, employment, and economic status.

Recognizing these realities, IJP will:

  • Work with affected communities to formulate advocacy priorities;

  • Collaborate with national experts on racial justice advocacy;

  • Explicitly identify and address race equity in our advocacy goals;

  • Strive to be an equitable and inclusive organization.
